What is a veterinary dermatologist?

A veterinary dermatologist is a veterinarian who has undergone several years of additional training specifically in the diagnosis and treatment of animal skin, ear, hair, nail and oral diseases.  A large percentage of cases that a veterinary dermatologist manages are allergic in nature.

Why should I see a veterinary dermatologist?

In many cases, your primary veterinarian will be a good source for treatment and management of many cases, however, some cases are more difficult to manage or unique in nature.  In which case, a veterinary dermatologist, with more training in managing some of these difficult cases or in identifying the subtle differences between diseases, can be the key in helping you and your beloved pet.

When should I see a veterinary dermatologist?

You are welcome to see a dermatologist at anytime, especially if you are concerned about your pet’s quality of life and if their condition is affecting your quality of life!  If a disease has not responded or has started to fail to respond to general treatment, it is time to come visit us!
